Shelley Smith is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Raleigh, NC, and a Master of Art + Design candidate at the NCSU College of Design. Shelley’s practice addresses the relationship between memory and the formation of identity as well as the theme of female self-representation in contemporary art. Her work consists of conceptual self-portraiture using the methods of collage, digital video montage, and installation. Shelley combines traditional hand techniques and materials such as textiles and stitching with the contemporary tools of digital printing, collage, and video to create work that reflects how identity is formed over a lifetime.
